Blechhammer, Odertal, Politz, Auschwitz ... these are just a few of USAAF WWII target which are in Poland today. I write about American airmen who landed or were shot down during missions to these targets, and I assist in searching for MIAs.
I reconstruct forgotten aircrew stories from archives and family records, using war diaries, mission reports, maps, photographs and personal papers. Each piece follows a specific crew, aircraft or mission/topic, combining documented detail with the human perspective of those who flew and the families they left behind.
The aim is to produce reliable narratives you can cite and share: carefully cross‑checked, with sources indicated, so relatives, historians, modellers and aviation enthusiasts can trust both the story and the technical context.
All articles are free to read and arrive by email when you subscribe. If you’d like to help me spend more time on research and in contact with families, you can support my work on Buy Me a Coffee, where I also share extra posts, research notes and behind‑the‑scenes material from ongoing investigations.
More about me:
In 1996, I co-founded the amateur research group Aircraft Missing In Action Project, which specializes in the history of the US Army Air Force over Poland in World War II. The members of this group have documented several hundred cases of American aircraft that were shot down or landed in Poland behind Soviet lines.
Since 2001, I have been working closely with the US Department of Defense, supporting their Defence POW/MIA Office in the search of MIA soldiers in Poland.
